Dick Weber provided pictures of two versions of Christmas Bear ornaments that he
carved for his daughter's restaurant -THE BEAR TRAP- in Riverside, Wyoming. Below the pictures is a
pattern he provided for his bear Christmas ornaments.
Dick Weber Bear Ornament
1. Draw hat fringe, ball and bear's ear.
2. Cut these lines with a V tool.
3. Stop cut front of ear and lower ear 1/8".
4. Shape and carve top of hat.
5. Stop cut lower line of fringe and with a straight knife or large fishtail relieve face
so it appears to come out from under the hat.
6. Complete rounding the hat ball.
7. Round the back of the ear.
8. Draw insde ear line and carve with a small vainer.
9. Texture all sawed edges of head and snout.
10. Round edges of the bear's head.
11. After edges of snout have been texture, super glue snout to bear head.
12. Darw in nose and lower snout 1/64".
13. Draw in and cust with a V tool upper lip line.
14. Stop cut these lines and scoop out for lower lip.
15. Round side edges of the snout from the lip line to the nose.
16. Use 3/16" eye punch to mark the eyes.
Painting
Brown Bear.
- Any color brown for head and snout.
- Black for nose and eyes.
- Red for hat.
- Ivory for fringe and ball
- Medium Flesh with small amount of red for inside of lower lip.
- White for catch light in eyes.
Black Bear
- Hat, fringe, ball and lower lip same as Brown bear.
- Black for head and nose.
- Straw for snout and inside of ears.
- Eyes are straw with black dot inside and white catch light.
